Influence of Different Binders and Severe Environmental Conditions on the Tribological and Electrochemical Behaviour of WC-Based Composites

Cemented carbides are highly resistant to abrasion, erosion and sliding wear frequently used in drilling cutting tool operations. In the present investigation, different submicrometric (0.8 µm) WC (tungsten carbide)-based composites were developed, containing various binders of Co, Ni, NiCr, NiMo, NiCrMo. The main objective work was simultaneous tribological electrochemical characterization investigate mechanisms surface degradation when subjected mechanical how they interconnect with chemical or processes each other. By comparison previous tests, under dry same contact conditions load frequency, it can be concluded that a synergistic effect not observed solution works mainly as lubrication, resulting increased combined wear–corrosion resistance.
